Happy International Women’s Month!

MARCH is the International Women’s Month and I’m more than happy to share that Women at Thomson Reuters (a group in our company), invited me to talk in one of their programs, “Bold, Strong and Sweet: Sharing Women’s Facets Over Coffee and Tea”.

I shared my beautiful struggles and challenges as a single mother. Here is also their write up about my talk:

Strong Women

I mentioned 3 Things I’ve learned in single parenthood:

1. Get a support system and have someone to look up to. This is very important. It’s given, you’re single-handedly doing mother and father duties. But you are not alone. You have your family, friends, workmates. Yan ang importante. Pag sumandal ka sa kanila, you’ll have strength you never thought you’ll have. But at the end of the day, you’ll realize na kahit madaming sumusuporta sayo, as a single parent, you want more than you need, to prove to others what you go.

2. Work on things you can control. We can no more control the past. It already happened. What you need to need to control now is what you have – finances, first and foremost. Learn how to budget and handle finances. Learn about the investment vehicles like mutual fund or bonds. Be careful also of your emotions. Wag masyadong emotional! I am also a single mom. Hindi lang tayo dalawa sa mundo! Smile lang and be stronger than anyone else!

3. Please love yourself again. This step is usually forgotten. Porke nanay na wala na, pinabayaan na ang sarili. Mother, please. Mag lipstick ka ulet mag muk ap, rumampa!

Motherhood is not an excuse for you to create a bucketlist. Personally, when I became a mom, I focus more on cooking, playing the guitar and any other interest that I have been wanting to learn than my past hobbies.
